What Did We Learn? Week 1

With the NFL's Week One coming to a close there are a lot of wild assumptions and overreactions out there.  While we learned a lot here are the Jersey take-away's and thoughts from this week!

The Loss Of Sean Payton Will Terribly Affect The Saints?

There is absolutely no reason to think the Saints are any worse off this year than they were last year.  Yes they lost to Washington... on the road against a revitalized franchise.  I don't think New Orleans looked bad so much as Washington looked REALLY good.

Remember when the Saints lost to the Rams last year?  Yeah so do I.

Let's not freak out here going on about turmoil, suspensions, bounty scandals, etc.  Both teams came out and played and Washington was the better team.  It was one week.  Let's not anoint either team a huge success of dismal failure just yet people.

Peyton Manning Will Lead Denver To The Play-Offs

Peyton Manning looked good, no, GREAT against the Steelers.  This was a great litmus test for not only the Denver Offense, but the defense as well.  The Broncos are looking like a cohesive unit that's firing on all cylinders right now.  He may have lost the slightest step, a little depth, but when you're as talented as Manning you're still a cut above the rest.

He took a couple shots and popped right up again.  He made great calls at the line and really picked apart the Steelers.  Now let's not forget that Pittsburgh is pretty banged up themselves.  James Harrison is a destructive force and he was absent.  On top of that Wallace missed the majority of the off-season with his whining and bitching about his contract while Antonio Brown took the fat extension.

Again it's week 1 so I'm not ready to guarantee a play-off spot but it certainly looks like a good possibility at this point!

Arizona Is A Wasteland

But but but they beat Seattle and their new shiny Quarterback!

I don't care.

I don't want Larry Fitzgerald on my team.  I don't want Kolb or Skelton.  I don't want Beanie or Williams.  Beyond the IDP'ers on this team I wouldn't touch a single player.  Now Skelton is hurt and KOLB has taken the reins.  I'm sure he'll break his leg next week and Lindley will be thrown into the fire.

Find your production elsewhere because if you're looking in Arizona you're in some serious shit.

Weeden Is Bad

This is the sad truth.  He struggled in the preseason and now he's continuing to struggle in the regular season.  It's a shame because there are so many talented pieces in Cleavland.  Greg Little isn't worth a look and it's tough to run the ball when they opponent just needs to stack the box to shut you down.

Trent will be having a really tough go of things if Weeden can't get his game together.  If he keeps playing like this I expect McCoy to be thrown back in there before the bye week.

Start Your #3 WR's Against The Giants

When a team can make Ogletree look like a rockstar you know they have problems.  The Giants needed to insert their FIFTH string CB against Dallas and with Thomas, Prince and Coe all banged up I expect that trend to continue.  The #1&2 will still get some decent coverage but if a team is running with 3 WR's I want to own that third guy against the Giants.

Last Year Was Not A Fluke For San Fran

The San Francisco defense really is that good.  With Bowman, Smith, and Willis (Whom would all be the #1 LB's on other teams) they really are unstoppable.  They shut down Aaron Rodgers pretty handily.  Even though their QB play is average with Alex Smith at the helm he doesn't make many mistakes.

He leans on the running game, makes the short little passes, and DOESN'T TURN THE BALL OVER.  Ball security seems to be his forte as he makes very safe plays.  He doesn't force throws, don't take many deep shots or chances, and when he runs he always slides or heads to the sideline.  While Alex Smith isn't, in my mind, a top 15 FANTASY QB, he is a legit NFL QB.

Flashy?  No.  But reliable.

That's it for now.  I'll enjoy watching the rest of tonight's games and my team stomping the last of the life out of the Killers.  Everyone else was writing such nice articles I wanted to chip in somewhere!
